Overview

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations require that an employer provide suitable arrangements for rendering First Aid to persons injured at work.

Depending on the perceived risks associated with the business and the availability of qualified assistance, persons should be either FAW (First Aid at Work) or as a minimum EFAW (Emergency First Aid at Work) trained.

This course is accredited by the HSE & covers the essential knowledge that is
needed for the role of "EFAW" person.

Objectives

  • This course is suitable for "EFAW" persons
  • By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
  • Render Emergency First Aid to an injured
  • person until medical assistance is available.
  • Recognise and appropriately treat most emergency situations.
  • Fulfil the criteria outlined for an “EFAW” person within the First-Aid Regulations.

Course Content

The course covers the following topics:

  • Role of EFAW Person
  • The priorities of first aid
  • Managing incidents
  • Shock
  • Care and Treatment of an Unconscious Person
  • Treatment of wounds and bleeding
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Common workplace injuries

Who should attend?

Nominated emergency first aiders.

Duration

Initial training requires 1 Day. You will need reassessing every 3 years.

Preparation

Participants should be of such a disposition as to be able to take control and stay calm in an emergency and preferably be able to kneel down on the floor.

Materials

Delegates receive handouts and other appropriate reference materials.
